Have You Loved a Tree Lately?

My computer is out of commission for a while until the Mac man delivers my new charger. Until then, feast your minds upon this idea posited by Kevin Drew at the free show he played in Cambridge last night:

"Too much information is a bad thing. Just go look at a tree for a long time, and appreciate it."

Wise.

Well, what are you waiting for? As for me, I'll be running through cemeteries, feeling reflective and solitary.

No One Wears Pixels Quite Like You

I got a new camera!!!

!

Oh crap. I re-read my older blog posts and decided to make an honest effort not to use so many exclamation marks. And cut back on the italics. This blog is going on a diet.

Anyway, I got a new camera. It's a Kodak, and I'm fairly sure that the camera snobs of the world are laughing at Kodak. I found this post on Gizmodo that did nothing to assuage my fears. Well you know what Gizmodo? It might be cool if a little squirt of water occasionally came out of my brand new suckerville laughingstock camera.

I had buyer's remorse for an entire day, and then last night I picked up my reject clown camera and fell madly in love with it.

Watch Out for Falling Stars

Saturday night was Erin's birthday, or as she would say: "birfffendooogen!" (Or something along those lines.) I spent the day walking around Harvard Square, buying her a bunch of random stuff & cute stuff, like "Party Girl" Mad Libs, chopsticks with cartoons on them, jelly bellies, ummmm oh! And my favorite lip gloss.

Before the party, I hung at Minh's place and Hil came over! We were going to go out somewhere and be fabulous ladies, but we ended up opening a bottle of wine there. Staying in is the new going out!

I had just bought a new outfit, so I got dressed there and it was fun getting ready with another girl. Girl time!

Hilary showed me she got seven years bad luck because she broke the mirror in her purse! Oh no!

We all went to Erin's party, where I saw the Birthday Lady and Pixie! Yay! Haven't seen them since our last foray into Forever 21 cheap thrills.

Basically this is the same picture but I like them both and it's MY BLOG. Mwah ah ah ah, drunk with power.

Soon it was time to light the cake...

and sing happppy birthday!

But wait! Turn out the lights first. Action shot!

Happy Birthday Mama! Jen made the cake. It started to get melty, so the monkeys looked psychedelic. Hey, what's that monkey on the left doing with its banana?

Monkey head.

Erin got the monkey head piece! Well, it was her birthday.

Then it was present time! My bag of cute and/or random stuff! My camera was dying so I didn't get too many pictures of present opening fun times.

Lip gloss! Do yourself a favor and go get some rose's RIGHT NOW!!

This one's my favorite. Presents presents everywhere! Jen drew pictures of some of Erin's gifts 'cause they hadn't come yet in the mail. Coming soon! Love it.

Just hangin' by the water cooler talking about last night's episode of Lost. Har har.

Someone looks a little sleepy and shiny here (hint: it's not Erin!), but it's cute anyway. Happy birthenday Mama.

I don't have too many other pictures. Here's a few from my apartment:

We had a party and this kitten picture showed up mysteriously afterward. What is the meaning of it? Just a bunch of cute kittens? Kitten adoption? Kitty Brady Bunch? It's on our fridge now, an unsolved kitty mystery.

Keeping on the subject of my fridge, Luke's Mammy made us some cute magnets. She's crafty! I love the heart flower, although sometimes I'm not sure if we assembled it correctly. It looks right, right?

Just some of my favorite pictures. I miss real photos.

I keep some framed pictures on my heater cover thingy. But it's too windy with the windows open, so they've been lying down most of the summer. I always think it looks like I got mad at everyone in the pictures, so I slammed them down or something.

And here are some pictures from the square (you know, that square I always go to):

A mural that I love.

Intimidating art gallery space that has like two paintings in it. (In the reflection you can kind of see I'm wearing my Moz t-shirt! Nerrrrrd.)

I like to look at the staff picks at Harvard Book Store. I want to read Wicked Lovely now, because it's about fairies! update: faeries!

Aside from that, I've been cooking healthy meals for Luke and myself,

Hanging with Gigi,

and drinking wine with my Mom. Ah, the good life.

Like a Swan With No Head, I Was All Neck and Feathers

On Wednesday, Minh asked me to go with her to the emergency room to have her stitches removed. She cut her wrist on a window pane a couple of weeks ago. I had never seen stitches removed, but it was easy peasy. I held Minh's hand. You can't really see her wound in this picture, but it's there.

This picture is so bright, but I am putting it up because it was Minnie and Alex's two year anniversary! Happy happy happy happy happy ann-i-verse-ary.

They were having a photo shoot on their roof deck for Caspian. I went over to take total behind the scenes shots.

There was even a stylist! Real deal, like they got to pick out clothes (apparently there was some coercing for the white jeans), and they had stuff pinned so it looked just right. The stylist's name is Callie. I think. If I'm wrong will someone tell me so I can fix it?

Watching the shoot.

Shooting the shoot.

Shooooooot.

Can you handle the behind the scenes action?!?!!!!

I don't really know these guys, so it was nice of them to not make me feel like a total weird-o for taking pictures of them getting their pictures taken. Oh, and check out Caspian!

Alex has a blog request...but I told him I'm not writing the story until he leaves me an official request in the comments section. So there.

A gutted house exterior.

Cityscapes.

Now we're getting into the hidden treasures of the roof segment:
What's going on here? Someone spray painted musical instrument stencils onto a wall? I forgot to ask Minh if she knew the back story with this.

A swan without a head. Sounds like a song title, or a premise for a fable.

I call this one: "Plastic Elephant; Rubble." Alternative title: "Awesomeness."

After all the roof-top fun, I went over Abby's for dinner. We were supposed to go out, but she had a long day and just wanted to stay in. But...it was so nice. I told her the next day that I think staying in is the new going out. You heard it here first!

Wally was there too. I kind of felt like I was crashing their dinner-for-two. I brought cookies and ice cream to make up for it!

Abby and I stepped outside for a "soy cigarette" and she showed me this little lot behind her apartment that she is trying to turn into a common patio. She was like, 'I'm a trustee. Wait...I think I'm something like on the board of trustees." Ha!

Making big patio plans, we are.

They keep this thing on serious lock-down. Triple locked! Guess I'll just have to do this the hard way.

Last night I went to Kristen and Lauren and Sarah's. It was our last night hanging there, b/c they're moving out and going different ways. Sad. I took this picture right before we left to go to Sarah's show. This is kind of like finding a hidden treasure of the kitchen. Never noticed it before. Potty mouths!

Just some familiar faces at the show.

And more.

Sarah Rabdau owned the place.

Owning the place all over the place.

Kristen was a late arrival. Late but great.

Kristen's co-worker Paul.

Can you see what is going on with this hat? Oh my god. Paul told me allllll about it. It's a Halloween trick-or-treat hat, with a demon horse wearing a skull necklace and candy corn details. That is one serious hat.

Megan was there too!! She is so pretty and majestically lionesque that she gets two pictures.

These are Megan's friends. The gentleman on the right played before Sarah. His name is Eric with a C, and he told me just like that. Erik with a K really hates when people get it mixed up too, so I understand.

I met up with Leo, Cat, Dave, and their friend who I don't know. Just for a quick how-do-you-do.

What's new Kitty Cat?

You know what I love? When people indulge me. I was running ahead and trying to take everyone's picture, but they kept catching up. So Cat was like, "Everyone stop walking and pretend to be walking!" Yes! The money shot.
